Apples of Gold

Week 25/2024

A word fitly spoken is like APPLES OF GOLD in a setting of silver [Proverbs 25v11]

Today we continue our series: “Christ is in every book of the Old Testament”.

Last week was in Genesis and today we look at how the Passover Lamb in Exodus 12 is a type of the perfect sacrificial lamb, as Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 5v7: “For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed”. The lamb is an ancient symbol of meekness and humility which is willing to submit to the will of its master so is a perfect representation of the attribute of Christ,  as we read in Isaiah 6v8: “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me”.

In the Exodus story we notice some interesting requirements – the lamb had to be spotless, and everyone had to apply the blood of the lamb around the door of his house. We know Christ was sinless, but not all of us realise we have to individually identify with His sacrificial death by believing that His blood washes away our sins – as John the Baptist proclaimed in John 1v29: “‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world”. However, we must never forget that He is also referred in Revelation 5v5 as the Lion of the tribe of Judah.  Why? Because at the end of time He will reveal His awesome power: “As surely as I live,” says the Lord, “Every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.” See Romans 4v11.

The choice is ours – we can either believe now that He died for us as our sacrificial lamb and enjoy peace because our sins have been forgiven or after we die have to bow the knee before the lion of Judah and endure His wrathful judgement because our sins are not atoned for. It’s a no-brainer!
