Apples of Gold – 20 March 2023

A WORD FITLY SPOKEN IS LIKE APPLES OF GOLD IN A SETTING OF SILVER (PROVERBS 25v11)

Have you ever wondered what Jesus meant when He said “My Father is always at his work to this very day and I too am working.” John 5v17.

What work are they busy with? Firstly, the answer is that they are actively involved in our welfare. Starting with saving all those who put their faith in Him as we read in the well-known verse in John’s Gospel chapter 3v16: “For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Every day thousands of people are coming to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and the Lord is intimately involved in that process.

Secondly, broadcasting that great news to all in heaven: “I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15v10). It is amazing that Almighty God considers us that important that He takes time to orchestrate the angels to rejoice when that happens!

Thirdly, changing us: “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1v6). He begins the good work of salvation and then begins the hard work of changing us to become more Christ-like and less “self” obsessed.

God is working tirelessly for us – how busy are we for Him? But a word of caution: let us make sure that we are doing His work and not the work we think should be done. “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain” Psalm 127v1.

Next week we will consider more work in which the Lord is involved.

God Bless
